1. What is HOA?

Heart of America – AOSA is the Kansas City metro chapter of the American Orff Schulwerk Association.  The chapter was founded by local elementary music teachers who teach using the Orff-Schulwerk process in their elementary classrooms.  HOA’s primary mission is to  provide an opportunity for professional growth for all elementary music teachers in the KC metro area.  We do this by hosting four workshops each year, bringing in the best clinicians in the country.

Orff-Schulwerk is a process of teaching music through speech, song, movement, dance, and a wide variety of instruments.

Here is what some of our members have to say about HOA:

I am a first year teacher at Millbrooke Elementary in Olathe. I attended an HOA workshop for the first time after about a month of teaching. This workshop was incredibly helpful! Not only was it a great networking opportunity, but I was given tricks and tips that I started implementing in my classroom immediately. I can’t wait to come to more workshops as the year continues. Teaching is all about life long learning and I am so excited to be a part of a group like HOA that encourages just that!

Over the past 16 years, HOA-AOSA has provided an amazing musical adventure. . .incredible presenters, encouraging relationships, and a superabundance of ways to teach the same lesson. If you’re “thinking” about attending one of the HOA workshops, you’d better put your feet in motion, get in your car and drive to William Yates Elementary. . .October 11th, February 7th, and March 6th!
